Frequently Asked Questions
Q. What is the Whitby Goth Weekend?
A. The Whitby Goth Weekend (WGW) was founded in 1994 by Jo Hampshire of Top Mum Promotions and has grown to become one of the world's premier Goth events. Taking place in Whitby, North Yorkshire, UK, the WGW's official line is to provide musical entertainment with bands and DJs, although the culture of the WGW has far outgrown that simple agenda. Whitby Goth Weekend now has something for everyone with an interest in goth and all things alternative. It's a celebration of the non-conformity, diversity and freedom of expression the scene embodies. Thousands of Goths and alternatives of all ages and from all walks of life head to the town for an amazing long weekend. Whether they spend the nights dancing or drinking, the days shopping in the various 'Bizarre Bazaar' locations, or just wandering around town in their finery, it's a weekend they never forget!
Q. Where does it take place?
A. The main event takes place in the Spa Pavilion which is situated on West Cliff in Whitby, North Yorkshire YO21 3EN.
Q. How much are tickets for the main event at the Spa Pavilion?
A. For the Spring 2013 event, full weekend tickets cost £55, Friday only tickets cost £29, and Saturday only tickets cost £29.
Q. How do I buy a ticket?
A. Both weekend and single day tickets can be bought online direct from us through our secure online shop WGW Tickets , or from one of our official ticket resellers: Pandemonium from the shop in Whitby or online at www.whitbypandemonium.co.uk, Morgana in Wakefield, Void in Nottingham, or Vagabonds online at www.vags.net. If you can't obtain a ticket from one of these sources because they've sold out, you may want to try asking on the forum ( WGW Forum ) or on Facebook ( WGW Facebook ).
Q. When do tickets go on sale?
A. Tickets for the Winter 2012 event are on sale now.
Q. What should I do with my ticket?
A. Tickets should be exchanged for wristbands at the WGW info stall in The Spa Pavilion preferably between the hours of 10am-5pm on Friday or Saturday. This helps us by easing congestion at the door, but please don't worry if you are arriving late as tickets may be also exchanged on the door. Your wristband entitles you to two nights of live bands and DJs between the hours of 8pm and 2am at the Spa Pavilion.
Q. When is the line-up usually announced?
A. It is traditional for the line-up of the next event to be announced during the course of the current event, and we usually offer an 'early bird' discount on tickets bought at this time.
Q. What time do the bands start and finish?
A. Generally the bands start at 8.30pm and finish around 1.00am, though we recommend you ask at the info stall during the weekend for up to date information especially if you wish to see a specific band.
Q. When will my ticket(s) arrive?
A. Tickets ordered through the WGW website are usually posted in one batch approximately 28 days before the event, though other outlets may ship them earlier.
Q. Is there a dress-code?
A. Not as such, no. However, we expect a level of taste and decency. Festival goers are pretty non-judgmental so anything from jeans and a t-shirt to full Victoriana is fine... just wear whatever you feel comfortable in!
Q. Is the Spa Pavilion open at times other than for the evening events?
A. The Spa Pavilion is also open during the day for the Bizarre Bazaar and making enquiries at the WGW info stall. The Spa also has a bar and a kitchen open during the day for the sale of alcohol, soft drinks, tea, coffee and food.
Q. Can I get a refund?
A. Refunds are not available but in some circumstances we may be able to transfer your ticket to the next event.
Q. Where can I get info at the festival?
A. You can get more info from the info stall which is in the foyer of The Spa Pavilion. You can't miss it really, there's usually a huge banner and a mass of people hanging about there. The info stall will be available all weekend, should you need any help.
Q. This will be my first time attending the WGW, any tips?
A. We run a 'WGW Virgins' meeting on the Friday morning of each festival at 11am in the Spa Pavilion. This is hosted by Loki who has attended every WGW so he has lots of tips and helpful info. Please wait in the foyer and Loki will make himself known when the meeting is about to start.
Q. Are there any other official events in the town?
A. We run club nights at RAW nightclub on Baxtergate on the Thursday, Sunday & Monday of each festival. These nights are not covered by your ticket and must be paid for separately.

Q. Can I bring my children?
A. Children have been among regular WGW-goers for years. Of course, the UK's licensing laws prohibit the sale of alcohol to or for people under the age of 18 (although exceptions do apply in certain circumstances, these will not be considered here) young people are more than welcome at the WGW. We do, however, expect you to behave as a responsible parent and determine when exposure to certain elements of the event is inappropriate for your children, and act accordingly.
Also, each Sunday of the Festival we hold a Whitby Dog Walk which leaves the bandstand (opposite the lifeboat station and amusements) at noon. Please feel free to come and join in! Visit our facebook at www.facebook.com/pages/Whitby-Goth-Weekend-Dog-Walks/10150095262815504 for more info.
